The woman
depicted on this box is Natalia
Goncharova, wife of the great Russian
poet Alexander Pushkin. She was
known as the most beautiful woman in
Moscow. Eventually the allegations
of her romance with the Frenchman led to
Pushkin's demise. A duel between Dantes
and Pushkin led to a mortal wound
inflicted on Russia's most famous poet.
Alexander Pushkin died in his bed
several days later.
The main character, Tatyana of Pushkin's
Eugene Onegin was based on personality
of Mrs. Goncharova. |
